Shooting suspects crashed when they tried to get away from Fresno police, officers say

UPDATE: Unborn baby killed in crash caused by driver wanted in shooting, Fresno police say

Four men police described as suspects in a recent shooting were arrested Wednesday after they crashed their vehicle while trying to outrun police, authorities said.

Fresno Police Capt. Anthony Martinez said officers were at North Bond Street, just south of East Olive Avenue around 2:10 p.m., when they recognized a suspect vehicle matching the description from the shooting.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, Martinez said, but the driver headed north on Bond, ran a stop sign at Olive, and collided with another car.

The collision sent both vehicles into the front yard of a house at Bond and Olive, Martinez said.

The Fresno Fire Department used the jaws-of-life to free the female driver. The woman is expected to be OK, but was taken to an area hospital for an examination, Martinez said.

Martinez said all four people inside the car were considered suspects in a recent shooting, but said he couldn’t comment on specifics. He did say police found a gun inside the car after the crash and all four people were arrested.
