Fresno detectives seek clues after man shot to death following relative’s car crash

Fresno police are investigating the killing of a 36-year-old man in southeast Fresno over the weekend.

Officers arrived at East Belmont and North Backer avenues around 4 a.m. Sunday after getting a call about a shooting victim. Officers found the man, identified as Joshua Thao, with a gunshot wound.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said Thao arrived at the intersection after a relative was involved in a traffic collision. Several friends and relatives from both sides involved in the collision showed up to the scene.

A brief verbal confrontation ensued between the two sides before one of them allegedly armed themselves with a handgun and fired several times, killing Thao, police said.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call police at 559-621-7000 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
