Boyfriend and girlfriend shot at while working on their vehicle in southeast Fresno

A man who was working on his vehicle alongside his girlfriend was shot in the chest Tuesday night in southeast Fresno.

Fresno police said around 8 p.m., a vehicle, described as a tan SUV or van, drove past the couple twice when two people got out of the car and started firing.

The man was struck at least once; the woman was not hit by any bullets, according to police.

It is unclear what was the motive behind the shooting.

Fresno Lt. Anthony DeWall added that the couple did appear to be targeted, rather that the shooting being a random act of violence.

The suspects fled north on Waverly.

The man who was struck was conscious and breathing when he left the scene and transferred to Fresno Community Regional Medical Center. His girlfriend had rendered first aid.

The incident remains under investigation.
