Man driving in Fresno shot, police say. Did bullet come from a car or side of street?

A man in his 20s was shot in the back of the head Tuesday evening while he was driving in southwest Fresno, police said.

Lt. Bill Dooley said dispatchers received a 911 call of a shooting victim just before 8 p.m. at Fresno Street and California Avenue, across from Wayne’s Liquor.

Dooley said the man was southbound on Fresno Street toward California Avenue when an unknown suspect fired at him from a sidewalk or another vehicle nearby.

The bullet went through the vehicle and struck him in the back of the head, Dooley said.

The man was conscious and talking when officers and EMS arrived. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center and was listed in critical condition.

Police don’t have suspect information and a large group at a park didn’t provide any information to officers.

Police were looking for surveillance cameras that might have footage of the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fresno police at 559-621-7000.
