Suspect facing murder charge in killing of woman in southeast Fresno apartment, police say

Homicide detectives plan to arrests a 35-year-old man for allegedly killing a 57-year-old woman in her southeast apartment.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the victim as Bridget Carter of Fresno. She was found dead Monday evening at the Villa Rosa Apartments, located in the area of Lane and Winery avenues.

The suspect, identified as Isaiah Martin, told a dispatcher that he killed someone, police said Tuesday.

When officers arrived around 7:25 p.m. Monday, Martin was standing in front of the complex. Officers entered the apartment and found Carter suffering from severe trauma to her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives interviewed Martin at police headquarters before taken him to a hospital for medical-related issues. Martin will be booked into the Fresno County Jail upon his release from the hospital.

Martin and Carter were acquaintances. Police also said neighbors described Carter as “always willing to lend a helping hand.”

Martin has previous arrests for burglary and drugs and is currently on active parole, police said.

It’s the 20th homicide in Fresno this year, police said. At this point last year, there had been 26.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fresno police 559-621-2421 or 559-621-2452.
