A Kingsburg couple faces charges of child abuse in a case launched by a tip from school staff, police said.

Officers served a search warrant Thursday at the home of 39-year-old Ashley Riedel and Angela Riedel, 41, Kingsburg Police Chief Neil G. Dadian said in a news release, culminating a six-month investigation.

The Riedels were each booked into Fresno County Jail on charges of child abuse and corporal injury to a child, and Angela Riedel also was arrested on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.

Dadian said the investigation began in January when officers were called to a local elementary school and met with Child Protective Services and school staff about visible injuries on a small child.

The child and an older sibling were taken into protective custody with CPS.

Angela Riedel’s additional charge stems from an alleged incident in January 2018, Dadian said. She is accused of hitting a teenager with her pickup truck while he was riding his bicycle in the neighborhood, running him off the road and causing him to fall.

Investigators say that was in retaliation for a doorbell prank the teenager committed.

The Riedels are being held without bail.
