Young mom shot in northwest Fresno has died, with police still hunting for suspects

A woman shot in northwest Fresno died of her injuries, Fresno police said.

Alyssa Ochoa Fernandez, 23, was a passenger in a car that came under fire Tuesday. She died Thursday.

The driver, Jermaine Johnson, 27, was struck in the shoulder.

Fernandez is the mother of several children, according to police, who announced her death Friday.

The pair were inside their car when multiple people approached about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday near Fairmont and Holt avenues, police said, and fired “numerous rounds.”

Johnson drove to the Villa Martinez Apartments at 2122 N. Marks Ave., west of Highway 99 and about three miles south of the shooting scene.

Officers responded after a 911 call from the apartments just before 10 p.m. reporting two gunshot victims.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fresno police at 559-621-7000.
