Victim shot to death in east central Fresno identified. Police seeking clues
A man was shot and killed following a disturbance at a Fresno freeway homeless encampment Friday morning, police said.
Officers responded to the 4700 block of East Tyler Avenue on the north side of Highway 180 shortly after 9:30 a.m. and found a man with a gunshot wound, said Lt. Stephen Viveros.
Officers tried to render aid to the man, Viveros said, before an ambulance took the man to Community Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Neither his identity nor a description were provided.
The man was identified as Samuel White, 33, of Fresno.
Viveros said a disturbance in an embankment area along Highway 180 west of Chestnut Avenue may have led to the shooting.
Viveros said detectives learned there were multiple people involved in the disturbance. Police were speaking to people there and canvassing the nearby neighborhood for possible leads.
The shooting was one of three Friday morning in the city. At least two other shootings were reported in southeast Fresno since midnight Friday. Police did not immediately provide information on the other shootings.
Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers and remain anonymous at 559-498-7867.
