Woman shot in the head after car sprayed with gunfire on Fresno street, police say

A woman was shot in the head and a man struck in his shoulder during an attack in central Fresno, police said.

Lt. Bill Dooley said the two victims were inside a vehicle with three other occupants when an unidentified man approached them around 9:45 p.m. near Fairmont and Holt avenues and started firing “numerous rounds.”

The party of five in the vehicle managed to get away and went to the Villa Martinez Apartments at 2122 N. Marks Ave., west of Highway 99 and about three miles south of the shooting scene. Police said they received a 911 call just before 10 p.m. from the apartments reporting two gunshot victims.

The man who was struck in the shoulder was the driver of the car.

The woman was rushed into surgery.

Both were listed in critical condition late Tuesday, Dooley said.

The suspect was described as a black man with a gray hoodie and dreadlocks.

Anyone with information is asked to call Fresno police at 559-621-7000.
