2-year-old killed in hit and run in Fresno County

Investigators are looking for the hit-and-run driver involved in a crash that killed a 2-year-old boy Tuesday night south of Fresno, the California Highway Patrol reported.

CHP spokesman Mike Salas said a vehicle, possibly a white GMC van, was southbound on Chestnut Avenue south of American Avenue at 8:35 p.m. when it struck the child, identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Aidan Amariba-Gonzalvez.

Family members told authorities that Aidan ran from inside a home and into the roadway.

The vehicle continued southbound on Chestnut Avenue without stopping.

A CHP officer who was first on the scene performed CPR for several minutes before an ambulance rushed Aidan to Community Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to call CHP at 559-262-0400.
