Deputy shoots, kills machete-wielding man who reportedly attacked 3 near Hanford

A Kings County Sheriff’s deputy early Tuesday shot and killed a machete-wielding man who attacked and severely injured three people.

Lt. Mark Bevens described the injuries to one victim as “terrible, terrible wounds.”

Bevens said the attacker was an “adult male” and the incident took place at First Place and Houston Avenue, south of Hanford. The attacker died at the scene.

Deputies arrived about 7:48 a.m. to find one of the victims had been “hacked in the head,” the lieutenant reported.

As soon as the deputy arrived, he was confronted by the suspect and ordered the man to stop, but the confrontation continued. The deputy then fired and the suspect went down, but got back up. Bevens said the deputy fired again and the suspect was pronounced dead a short time later.

Deputies reported that they have an extensive crime scene to investigate.
