5 arrested after leading deputies on 30-mile chase across 2 counties, sheriff’s office says
Five men were arrested Saturday after they allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint, then led deputies on a chase through two counties, according to the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.
Jose Gomez, 23; Sergio Gomez, 24; Brian Segura, 24; Gemini Moreno, 19; and Lorenzo Diaz, 23, were booked into Kings County Jail on suspicion of robbery, possession of stolen property, weapons offenses and felony pursuit.
The Sheriff’s Office said a man pulled over to use his cellphone near 11th and Excelsior avenues around 4:30 p.m. when he was approached by the men, who robbed him at gunpoint. The suspects then drove away in a Kia Optima, according to a news release.
The man was not injured. He notified deputies, who spotted the Kia a short time later.
The driver did not pull over, and led deputies on 30-mile pursuit from Kings County into Fresno County.
During the pursuit, the suspects threw items out of the window, the sheriff’s office said, including two semi-automatic handguns. One was confirmed stolen in Fresno County, deputies said.
The Kia finally pulled over in Parlier, and all five men were arrested, the Sheriff’s Office said.
