Shooting in east-central Fresno leaves one man dead, police say

A man died after being shot in east-central Fresno on Sunday afternoon, according to police.

The man, only described by police as being in his early 30s, was shot multiple times in his upper body in the 1400 block of North 11th Street near North Cedar and East Floradora avenues.

Officers arrived around 1 p.m. and the man was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died. He was identified Monday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Pierre Phelps, 30, of Fresno.

Phelps was visiting a family member when the shooting occurred, police said.

Witnesses and family members were not cooperative with the officers at the scene, police said, but detectives continue to investigate.
