Power restored after thousands were left in dark in central Fresno while storm passed

Thousands of customers were left without power for a brief moment Sunday afternoon in central Fresno as a severe storm rolled in from the west.

Up to 15,000 customers went dark for a brief period as strong showers passed through parts of Fresno and Clovis. Pacific Gas and Electric spokesman J.D. Guidi said the major outage lasted about 15 minutes.

Around 1:40 p.m., outages were affecting about 19 customers.

The area of the outages was generally bounded by highways 180 and 168 to the south and east, Shaw Avenue to the north and running diagonally from about Highway 41 north to Palm Avenue in the west.

Guidi said it’s not clear whether the storm played a factor in the outages.

The National Weather Service in Hanford reported strong showers moving east toward the Sierra. The rain brought flood warnings for communities in eastern Fresno County.
