Three young men shot in drive-by, one airlifted to Fresno hospital
Three young men were shot Saturday afternoon in a drive-by attack in the small Fresno County community of Del Rey, according to the sheriff’s office.
Spokesman Tony Botti said the shooting occurred at 3:40 p.m. on Morro Avenue near Wildwood Avenue when a car — described by witnesses as a black, four-door Mitsubishi Galant — drove down the street with someone firing shots out of the window.
Del Rey is an unincorporated community located about a dozen miles southeast of downtown Fresno.
The three victims, whose ages ranged from their late teens to early 20s, were standing in an alley at the time of the shooting, Botti said.
One victim was flown to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening wounds after he was shot in the upper body. He was reported to be in stable condition, Botti said. The two others were treated at the scene for minor to non-life-threatening injuries after each was shot in the leg.
Deputies believe the shooting is possibly gang-related and are hoping the victims will provide more information that’ll lead to an arrest.
