A Fresno man was shot in the head. About an hour later he asked for help, cops say

A man stepped onto a downtown Fresno bus on Van Ness Avenue near Fresno Street around 1 p.m. Saturday and told the driver he’d been shot in the head, according to police.

The 37-year-old man, who police say may be disabled, had difficulty communicating with officers but said he’d walked around for about an hour before asking for help, according to Lt. Carl McKnight.

The man may have been accidentally shot by a friend, police said, but detectives continue to look into when and the exact location of where he was shot.

The bullet entered the back of his head, traveling through the right side of his skull, McKnight said.

The victim was awake and speaking to officers before he was taken to an area hospital, police said.

Officers said they were aware of gunfire Saturday in two separate incidents but it remained unclear if the victim was hurt in either.
