Update: One of two victims in Dec. 12 Selma shooting has died
A 21-year-old Selma man has died of injuries suffered in a shooting Dec. 12 that left another person wounded.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office said Octavio Gonzalez, 21, died Dec. 15. Selma police previously said the victim’s age was 19 and that he was shot in the upper back.
Police said a 15-year-old was injured in a lower leg. The shooting happened around 6 p.m. near Mason Street and Rose Avenue, and the gunfire appeared to have come from a car parked down the street, police said.
Both injured victims were taken to Community Regional Medical Center. Police have not said if the victims are related.
An 18-year-old man was shot Dec. 11 in Selma. Police said that person was injured in an alleyway shooting near Locust and Evergreen streets around 6 p.m.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office was assisting in investigating the Dec. 12 shooting. It’s unclear if gangs are to blame in either shooting and police have not released information on suspects involved.
