Violent Saturday night in Fresno ends with three shootings, 1 killed, no arrests
A violent Saturday night ended with one man dead and at least two others shot in three separate incidents around Fresno, according to authorities.
A man who was shot at a wedding Saturday night in Fresno County died at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office confirmed Sunday morning.
Lt. Frances Devins said the victim was shot multiple times at a wedding held in the 2600 block of S. Marks Avenue, close to the Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church. Fresno County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Botti said as many as 300 people may have been at the party at the time of the shooting.
The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Deputies still are searching for any suspects. Botti said party guests began to leave the party as deputies arrived Saturday night. Detectives want to speak with anyone who left the party following the shooting.
Lt. Arely Terrance from the Sheriff’s Office said it appears that the victim and the suspect were both guests at the wedding and knew each other. The victim’s name has not been released but deputies have described him as a 30-year-old Hispanic man, according to the sheriff’s office.
Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Adam Maldonado at 559-600-8208, the sheriff’s office at 559-600-3111 or Crime Stoppers at 559-498-7867.
The sheriff’s office investigated another shooting Saturday night in central Fresno. Botti said a 19-year-old woman was shot multiple times around 9:20 p.m. in the 3500 block of E. Clinton Avenue. She was listed in stable condition on Sunday. Her identity was not released.
Botti said detectives are investigating the possibility that the woman was shot during a house party that may have been publicized on social media.
A third shooting Saturday night was described as a gun battle that happened off of Marks Avenue, a few miles north of the deadly wedding shooting. A man in his late 40s was shot several times in his pelvis area and taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he had been listed in stable condition.
Authorities have not reported arrests in the recent shootings.
Investigators do not believe the three shootings were connected.
