Herndon Avenue up first as Clovis kicks off $17 million in neighborhood developments
A stretch of Herndon Avenue is set for upgrades after Clovis adopted a $1.47 million plan for street improvements.
The project, awarded to Avison Construction, involves a 0.75-mile portion of road of Herndon from Villa Avenue to Clovis Avenue. The construction includes replacing the existing asphalt pavement, replacing the curb returns, updating traffic striping and marking, modifying traffic signals, and other features, according to the city.
Construction details and the timeline have not yet been finalized.
This project starts an initiative to allocate $17.7 million in fiscal year 2026-27 for neighborhood development, which includes road maintenance and repairs, expansion of the affordable housing program, and code enforcement, according to the city’s adopted budget document.
Of the $17.7 million budget, affordable housing programs will have an investment of over $6 million. Other enhancements in the budget include reconstructing various alleys in lower-income neighborhoods, installing lighting along the Dry Creek Trail and building a pedestrian bridge to connect Cottonwood Park to the Dry Creek Business Park.
Besides the Herndon Avenue improvements, the city also plans to carry out the following public street projects within the fiscal year:
- Reconstruct Armstrong Avenue — Shaw to Barstow
- Reconstruct Willow Avenue — Barstow to Sierra
- Construction of Shaw Avenue from DeWolf to Leonard to serve Loma Vista Community
- Construct ADA Improvements as part of various street improvement projects
