Clovis adding a police dispatch center for Loma Vista, increasing safety services
The City of Clovis plans to build a new dispatch center for police officers in the Loma Vista area.
Located at the northwestern corner of Loma Vista Parkway and Encino Avenue, the proposed 4,113-square-foot, one-story building will be constructed on a 0.58-acre portion of a larger piece of land designated for the city’s Fire Station 6 and accessory public facilities, according to the city’s planning commission document.
The building includes a large open office space for a dozen dispatchers, a training room, break rooms, and an exterior patio, according to the design document.
The maximum capacity for the facility is 14 staff and one supervisor, said Marissa Parker, the city’s associate planner.
Parker said the city does not yet have an estimated construction cost. The planning department is waiting for a third-party estimate on the project. The item is scheduled to be presented to the city council in August, she said at the planning commission meeting last week.
The new dispatch center is needed to provide adequate safety services to accommodate the area’s existing and future growth, city officials wrote in the document. As of April, approximately 8,038 single-family and multi-family units, along with two commercial centers have been constructed in the Loma Vista area.
Upon full buildout, the city anticipates 10,714 housing units that will bring approximately 29,000 residents and six million square feet of non-residential development, which will support 13,000 workers, according to the city’s document.
The exterior design of the dispatch center will be in the Santa Barbara style, which complements the architectural themes of other buildings in the Loma Vista neighborhood, city officials said.
