A 13-year-old on a motorized scooter was killed and a 12-year-old was hospitalized in critical condition following a crash with a truck in Fresno on Friday night.

The fatal collision occurred around 10:40 p.m. at the intersection of Bullard and Palm avenues, according to Fresno Police Lt. Justin Hoagland.

The victim was identified Saturday morning in an update from the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Dominiq Puentes, 13, of Fresno. Authorities confirmed Puentes was the lead rider on the scooter and the 12-year-old was the passenger.

Police said the truck was traveling west on Bullard Avenue and entered the intersection at Palm when the crash happened.

Officers arrived to what Hoagland described as a “chaotic” scene, with a large group of pedestrians gathered nearby.

Officers rendered aid before both juveniles were taken to a local hospital.

The 13-year-old later died; the 12-year-old was in serious condition as of Saturday morning.

The driver of the truck stayed at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.

Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Authorities canvassed the area for surveillance video to determine what led up to the collision.

Hoagland noted that a motorcycle was attached to the truck at the time of the crash.

The department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit was called to investigate.

The intersection was closed for several hours following the incident.
