A Clovis man was killed early Friday in a single-vehicle crash at Bass Lake in Madera County.

According to California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 3:46 a.m. on Road 274 at Fawn Point Lane on the eastern side of the lake.

The 72-year-old was driving a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 north on Road 274, approaching Fawn Point Lane at an unknown speed, when he failed to negotiate a sharp curve, CHP said. This caused the truck to leave the east roadway edge and overturn.

The truck struck a tree and boulders, and came to a rest on its roof about 30 feet down an embankment, facing in a southwesterly direction.

The man, who was wearing a seat belt, was pinned inside the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.

The crash is under investigation.

CHP is asking anyone with information to call CHP Oakhurst at 559-658-6590.
