Woman killed in collision that shut down Clovis Avenue identified by police
The Clovis Police Department has confirmed the identity of a woman who was struck and killed while crossing Clovis Avenue on Tuesday night.
Tina Taylor, 55, of Clovis was crossing the road just south of East Griffith Way around 9:30 p.m. when she was struck by a northbound vehicle.
“First responders attempted life-saving efforts immediately,” but the woman died, according to a post on the police department’s social media Wednesday.
Clovis Avenue was closed while the department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit was called to investigate.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and cooperated with the investigation, Clovis PD said.
Drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected as a factor in the collision.
Other recent pedestrians deaths in Fresno area
The death follows at least two other fatal collisions involving pedestrians in the past month.
In one, a 25-year-old man was killed while running across Clovis Avenue near Cesar Chavez Boulevard.
This followed the death of a 59-year-old man who was stuck and killed on Cedar and Gettysburg avenues.
The Clovis Police Department offers these safety tips for drivers and pedestrians:
Drivers should:
• Stay alert and avoid distractions while driving. • Slow down in poorly lit areas and near intersections. • Watch carefully for pedestrians, particularly near crosswalks or bus stops. • Always yield to pedestrians in marked and unmarked crosswalks. • Avoid speeding as it reduces the ability to stop in time to prevent a collision.
For pedestrians:
• Cross streets at designated crosswalks or intersections whenever possible. • Wear bright or reflective clothing at night to increase visibility. • Make eye contact with drivers before crossing. • Walk facing traffic when sidewalks are not available. • Avoid distractions like cell phone and headphones.
