The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian killed Tuesday morning after getting struck by a semi truck in Fresno as 36-year-old Richard Gomez.

Officers responded to the crash at 7 a.m. at Blythe and Gates avenues, just behind Winco and found Gomez who was run over by the semi while on a motorized scooter, police said.

Police said a citizen followed the semi and called police. Officers responded and were able to stop the semi in the area of Ashlan Avenue and Golden State Boulevard. The driver was being cooperative, police said.

The department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the collision.
