  • Driver sustained minor injuries and was rescued by local fire personnel.
  • Northbound traffic on Highway 99 remains backed up to Tuolumne.

A semi trailer carrying food products overturned on a Fresno highway Wednesday afternoon.

The single-vehicle collision happened at 2 p.m. at northbound Highway 99 and Clinton Avenue.

The driver of the semi was pinned-in, but fire crews removed him from the truck. His injuries were listed to be minor, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said the truck was carrying 40,000 pounds of food.

CHP spokesperson Mike Salas said it appears the driver attempted to take the Clinton exit with insufficient room. He attempted to steer back onto the highway, however, was unable to because of his speed. The semi entered the gore point between the offramp and the highway and drove onto a dirt berm by a 4-foot concrete wall.

The semi drove onto the concrete wall for 500 feet until it caused it overturn.

Traffic going north was backed up to Tuolumne in the downtown Fresno area, CHP said. The highway at Clinton will be shut down for at least two hours.
