Update: 23-year-old killed in Fresno crash identified. CHP says speeds up to 150 mph
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the 23-year-old man killed in a crash Sunday morning as Derrick Trujillo.
The solo-vehicle collision happened at 12:10 a.m. at Highway 180 near Temperance Avenue.
Officers saw a Dodge Challenger traveling east on Highway 180 near Clovis Avenue approaching 130 mph, CHP said.
Officers initiated a traffic stop; however, Trujillo failed to yield and accelerated, reaching speeds up to 150 mph while exiting at Temperance, CHP said.
The Fresno man failed to navigate the off-ramp curve and the Dodge left the roadway, became airborne and overturned multiple times. Trujillo, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the southbound lanes of Temperance.
He was pronounced dead.
It is unknown at this time whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors; toxicology results are pending, CHP said.
The collision remains under investigation.
