A 23-year-old was killed in a crash Sunday morning after traveling at a high rate of speed in Fresno County.

The solo-vehicle collision happened at 12:10 a.m. at Highway 180, near Temperance Avenue.

Officers saw a Dodge Challenger traveling eastbound on Highway 180 near Clovis Avenue approaching 130 mph, CHP spokesperson Mike Salas said.

Officers initiated a traffic stop; however, the driver failed to yield and accelerated, reaching speeds up to 150 mph while exiting at Temperance Avenue, Salas said.

The driver failed to navigate the off-ramp curve and the Dodge left the roadway, became airborne and overturned multiple times. The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the southbound lanes of Temperance.

The man was pronounced dead.

It is unknown at this time whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors; toxicology results are pending, Salas said.

The collision remains under investigation.
