A bicyclist was killed Saturday night when a vehicle struck him near a highway.

Officers responded to the collision just after 11 p.m. after receiving calls about a vehicle-pedestrian crash at Jensen Avenue and the Highway 41 on-ramp, Fresno Police Lt. Leslie Williams said.

Officers arrived and found a bicyclist who had been struck by a vehicle and was lying in the roadway, Williams said.

Emergency personnel provided medical aid but the man was pronounced dead. He was identified by the coroner as Earnest Walker Sr., 47, of Fresno.

A short time later, California Highway Patrol officers found the involved vehicle at Jensen and East avenues.

The driver did not have objective symptoms of alcohol or drug intoxication, and they were cooperating with the investigation, Williams said.
