Pedestrian hit and killed after running onto Fresno road in rainy conditions, police say

A pedestrian was killed early Thursday morning after he was struck by a vehicle in Fresno.

Police said the fatal collision happened at 4:10 a.m. near Ashlan Avenue and Fresno Street when the pedestrian ran onto the road at Augusta Avenue in rainy conditions before they were hit by the vehicle.

Authorities rendered aid to the pedestrian, but they were pronounced dead by emergency personnel.

Fresno Police Sgt. Diana Trueba Vega said the driver was not suspected of being impaired and was cooperating with officers.

The identification and age of the victim was pending until next of kin can be notified.

The road was closed for two hours.
