A man was struck and killed by a train while trying to cross train tracks in Fresno on Sunday night.

Fresno police spokesperson Luke Tran said the incident happened about 5:15 p.m. at Clinton and College avenues near Fresno City College.

Tran said the man was on the train tracks, about 20 feet north of Clinton Avenue, trying to cross the tracks from west to east and there was a southbound BNSF train oncoming and couldn’t stop in time.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Jose Solis, 41, from Mendota.

BNSF police responded and took over the investigation, Tran said.
