Four people killed, two injured in two-vehicle fiery crash in Fresno County, CHP says

Four people were killed Friday night in two-vehicle crash in Fresno County.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the collision at 10:35 p.m. at the intersection of Floyd and Shaw avenues.

CHP spokesperson Mike Salas said the driver of a Ford Econoline van stopped at the stop sign and proceeded into the intersection, failing to yield the right of way to an oncoming Nissan Altima that was traveling west on Shaw Avenue.

The Ford entered the path of the Nissan, causing a violent collision.

The impact the vehicles to veer off the road and onto the southwest shoulder of the intersection before both vehicles were fully engulfed in fire, Salas said.

Two men in the Nissan were able to get themselves out of the car before it became fully engulfed, Salas said. Both sustained moderate injuries and were treated at the scene.

The driver and one passenger in the Ford van and the driver and a passenger in the Nissan were pronounced dead at the scene.

Salas said alcohol and/or drugs are believed to be a contributing factor in this incident.

The investigation was ongoing.
