Update: 22-year-old Fresno mother was fatally shot by her toddler. Boyfriend arrested

A woman was shot and killed Friday night at an apartment in Fresno.

In an update Monday, police identified the victim as 22-year-old Jessinya Mina and said she was shot by her 2 1/2-year-old toddler. Mina died of a single gunshot wound to the upper body.

Officers responded to the apartment, at Fresno Street and San Jose Avenue, around 5:30 p.m. and found a vehicle with Mina inside.

Life-saving efforts were given and she was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

On Monday, police said she lived in the apartment with the toddler, her 8-month-old infant and her 18-year-old boyfriend, Andrew Sanchez.

“Detectives learned Sanchez negligently left his loaded 9mm handgun in a location within their bedroom, where children were able to access it,” police said. “While handling the firearm, the toddler was able to pull the trigger, resulting in Mina being struck.”

Police said Sanchez was booked in Fresno County Jail on suspicion of felony child endangerment and felony criminal storage of a firearm.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to help support Mina’s family.
