Drowning incident depicts emergency personnel at water canal

A 31-year-old Fresno man was identified by the coroner after drowning Thursday night.

Christopher Sandoval’s body was recovered in a canal near Dakota and Maroa Avenues just after 8 p.m. after a man walking his dog saw a body in the water.

Emergency personnel responded and crews from the Fresno Fire Department recovered Sandoval but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Foul play is not suspected, according to police.
