Mom remembers son killed in a single-vehicle crash in Fresno. ‘Cheerful and outgoing’
Ramiro Martinez was a happy 17-year-old with a smile on his face.
“Even with the chip tooth, he’s still smiling,” said Enice Montijo, his mother.
“Just cheerful and outgoing.”
Montijo lost her only child in a car crash Sunday at McKinley near West Avenue. Police said the vehicle had four people inside and Martinez was ejected. The vehicle struck a tree where it came to rest, police said.
Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The other three were taken to a local hospital with major injuries.
His aunt Eliza Cedillo, said Martinez was “colorful and cheerful.”
“He had so much talent,” she said. “He was really kind-mannered. We all lived together — my nephew, me and my son.”
Montijo said Martinez enjoyed music, so much that he decided he was going to make music for his grandmother who was fighting cancer. She said Martinez was always into his music and making videos and rapping with his dad.
His highlight, however, was making music for his grandmother.
“He would always write music for her,” she said.
A memorial has been set up at the crash site with candles in memory of Martinez.
“It’s a hard one,” Montijo said.
A GoFundMe account has been created to help with Martinez’s family for funeral costs.
