One juvenile killed, three others seriously injured in crash in Fresno, police say

One young person was killed and three others received serious injuries Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Fresno.

Fresno police Lt. Tim Tietjen said the crash happened just before 4 a.m. on McKinley Avenue, near West Avenue.

Officers responded and found a vehicle that had four people, with the driver and a backseat passenger ejected.

Police said the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other occupants were taken to a local hospital with major injuries, Tietjen said.

Tietjen said the vehicle was traveling eastbound on McKinley from Golden State Boulevard at a high rate of speed when witnesses told officers that the vehicle lost control, crossed the railroad tracks and began to slide in a northeast direction striking a telephone pole before entering the ponding basin.

The vehicle struck a tree where it came to rest, he said.

Detectives from the department’s Collision Reconstruction were on scene to investigate the crash.

It’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor, police said.

The roadway was closed for several hours.
