Caltrans worker injured when suspected DUI driver hits him on Hwy. 168 in Clovis, CHP says

A Caltrans worker was injured Thursday afternoon when a vehicle struck him on Highway 168 in Clovis.

California Highway Patrol spokesman Mike Salas said the collision happened just before 2:30 p.m. in the area of 168 and Bullard Avenue.

Salas said Caltrans was in the process of doing an embankment cleanup with one of the lanes coned off on the Bullard offramp. A driver, however, went into the cone pattern and hit the worker with a mirror.

The driver continued, Salas said, before he was stopped a short distance near Helm Avenue by a good Samaritan who blocked him in before deputies with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office arrived.

Salas said the driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The worker’s injuries were moderate to major, Salas said.
