Worker killed by van at Foster Farms in Fresno identified by coroner. Driver arrested

The man killed when he was struck by a car at a Foster Farms facility was identified Friday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

Jose Romero Aguilera, 25, was struck by a 40-year-old man driving a Chrysler Pacifica van within the property of the facility at 10535 Englehart Avenue in Reedley about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, the coroner confirmed.

The driver, who Foster Farms has said was working for a temporary agency, was not given permission to drive the van before the fatal crash, according to officials.

It was not clear how the crash happened at the property near Dinuba and Buttonwillow avenues, but the California Highway Patrol said the van hit Romero Aguilera.

He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center and later died, CHP said.

The 40-year-old did not stop and instead left the property headed north on Englehart, CHP said. He stopped a short time later after seeing a CHP officer at an unrelated stop and surrendered to the officer.

He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter, CHP said. He was also determined to not have a license.
