UPDATE: Cyclist killed when he hit a trailer south of Fresno identified by coroner

A man on a bicycle was killed when he collided with a big rig Monday just south of Fresno, the California Highway Patrol said.

The man believed to be in his 40s was riding a mountain bike south on the sidewalk along Cedar Avenue just south of Kaviland Avenue in Calwa about 12:30 p.m., officer Mike Salas said.

For an unknown reason he rode out into the street and collided with the trailer being pulled by a big rig also going south on Cedar, Salas said.

He was not wearing a helmet and died at the scene, CHP said.

The crash happened in front of a preschool and traffic was expected to be diverted for at least another hour after 1 p.m., he said.
