Police officer killed in Fresno County crash identified. He was a cop less than 3 months

The off-duty officer who died in a Fresno County crash Tuesday was identified as a Sanger Police Department rookie.

Manvir Dhanoa, 26, started in Sanger on March 27, according to a news release from Chief Greg Garner confirming Dhanoa as the victim of a fatal crash.

“He possessed a deep commitment to upholding the law and ensuring public safety, traits that made him a valued member of our department,” Garner said in the news release.

Dhanoa was the driver of a Tesla Y that crashed about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday on Millerton Road east of Auberry Road when he allowed it to drift and strike a culvert, the California Highway Patrol said.

The Tesla rolled at least once, CHP said. It was not clear if he was wearing a seatbelt but he was ejected from the car.

The 23-year-old woman riding as a passenger was transported with moderate injuries, CHP said.

Officers have not determined if he was impaired while driving, CHP said.

The Sanger police release said Dhanoa’s family requested privacy as they mourn.

The city will fly its flags at half-staff until Dhanoa is buried, the release said. Residents were encouraged to leave notes to honor him at a memorial set up outside police headquarters.
