Man crossing busy Fresno County road killed by car. Driver couldn’t avoid him, CHP says

UPDATE: Pedestrian killed crossing Chestnut Avenue identified by coroner

A 20-year-old Fresno man was killed on a Fresno County roadway Tuesday when he ran out in front of a car, the California Highway Patrol said.

A driver was headed north on Chestnut Avenue approaching Central Avenue about 3 a.m. before the incident, CHP officer Carlos Trejo said.

The 20-year-old pedestrian dashed out into the street in an attempt to cross Chestnut going east, he said.

The driver swerved but was unable to avoid the man, who died at the scene from his injuries, CHP said.

The driver was not impaired and stayed at the scene after the crash, CHP said.
