Man killed in Fresno County rollover crash was off-duty officer, CHP says. Woman hurt

UPDATE: Police officer killed in Fresno County crash identified

An off-duty police officer was killed in a rollover crash that injured a woman in Fresno County, the California Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

The man was driving a Tesla around 5:30 a.m. headed west on Millerton Road east of Auberry Road when he allowed the car to drift to the right shoulder, CHP officer Carlos Trejo said.

The car overturned at least once. It was unclear if the driver was wearing a seatbelt, but he was ejected from the car, Trejo said.

“The car was so mangled it is unclear at this point,” he said.

The woman was trapped in the car before first responders transported her to Community Regional Medical Center, CHP said.

He estimated both of them were in their 30s.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the man was an off-duty officer, but they did not immediately release his name or the agency where he worked.

Officers had not immediately determined if the driver was impaired, Trejo said.
