Driver arrested on suspicion of manslaughter in crash near Clovis, CHP says

UPDATE: Victim in fatal crash identified by coroner

A woman was killed and two children were hurt Monday afternoon in a Fresno County crash.

The California Highway Patrol said it happened at 4:30 p.m. at Minnewawa and International avenues east of Clovis Community College.

CHP spokesman Mike Salas said a red Mercedes was traveling eastbound on International at a high rate of speed, approaching the stop sign at Minnewawa.

A black Honda Sedan was northbound on Minnewawa and entered the intersection as the Mercedes appeared to blow the stop sign and struck the Honda on the driver’s side, pushing both vehicles into an open field, Salas said.

The woman driving the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene. Two children, ages 8 and 10, were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.

The woman in the Mercedes had minor injuries.

Alcohol or drugs are not suspected, Salas said.

Salas said in a news release on Tuesday the woman in the Mercedes was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter.

She was no longer in custody Tuesday, Fresno County Jail records showed.
