Officers rushing to fatal shooting scene crash into a car at Blackstone intersection

Two Fresno Police officers rushing to the scene of what turned out to be a fatal shooting crashed into a car Sunday evening at a major city intersection.

The shooting happened at 7 p.m. near the intersection of North Glenn Avenue and East Lansing Way where a man in his 30s was found on the roadway with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police Lt. Robert Dewey said.

Two officers rushing to the shooting scene crashed with a car at Blackstone and Dakota avenues about a block away. The two officers in the police vehicle were not injured, but two people in the other car were taken to the hospital for a complain of pain, Dewey said.

Both the shooting and the crash under investigation. Dewey said the motive for the shooting was not immediately clear.
