Two from Fresno killed, four others with major injuries in I-5 crash near Grapevine

Two Fresno residents died early Sunday in a solo-vehicle crash on the Grapevine portion of Interstate 5, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred just before 3 a.m., south of Laval Road on Wheeler Ridge. Jaheim A. Jones, 19, of Fresno, was northbound on the interstate with five other Fresnans.

The CHP did not provide information about how the crash occurred but said a male and a female died in the incident. Jones, along with two women and a man, all 20 years old, were taken to Kern Medical Center with major injuries.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Monday.

Northbound I-5 was closed for nearly two hours after the crash.
