4-year-old rushed to hospital after getting hit by vehicle in downtown Fresno

A 4-year-old child was hit by a vehicle Thursday evening on the outskirts of downtown Fresno.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Thomas Avenue and Thesta Street.

A 4-year-old was in a vehicle with a family when the child got out and ran into the roadway.

Another vehicle, which was traveling westbound, began began to brake but was unable to come to a complete stop and struck the child.

The 4-year-old was transported to Fresno Community Regional Medical Center and was treated for nonlife threatening injuries.

The driver stopped and cooperated with officers, police said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be play a role in the incident.
