Man who ran out of gas hit on Fresno highway near major connector, CHP says. Roads reopen

A man returning to his car Wednesday with a gas container was struck on a Fresno highway and suffered major injuries, the California Highway Patrol said.

The man’s car appeared to run out of gas where the northbound Highway 99 connects with eastbound 180, officer Mike Salas said.

He was struck while returning and about 8:40 a.m. Salas said he ran directly in the path of a Dodge truck.

He was transported with major injuries, CHP said.

The transition was closed for about an hour as crews worked the scene, but opened around 10 a.m., Caltrans said.
