About 40 firefighters from four agencies finally extinguished a one-acre blaze near the Fresno/Merced county line at 9 p.m. Saturday.

The fire burned for hours and destroyed four mobile homes and 40 vehicles on a piece of property on the 12000 block of North Russell Avenue, about an hour west of Fresno and a few miles south of Dos Palos.

Fresno County Fire Battalion Chief John Dominguez said many of the vehicles appeared to have been used for parts while others were intact.

How the fire started is still under investigation, Dominguez said.

Cal Fire/Fresno County Fire first tweeted it was on scene at 5:33 p.m. About an hour later, the agency posted that forward spread of the fire had been stopped.

Assisting on the blaze were the Fresno County, Merced County, North Central and Firebaugh fire departments.
