Condo blaze displaces Fresno residents — 65 firefighters responded to complex with a history
A fire in a condominium displaced at least two people Wednesday in a complex with a history of fires, according to a Fresno Fire Department spokesperson.
Flames and smoke could be seen coming from the front door and side doors of a second-story condo about 12:05 p.m. inside the Ranchwood Condos complex on Chestnut Avenue north of Butler Avenue, department spokesperson Johnathan Lopez said.
All of those inside had evacuated the condo before crews arrived, he said.
Because of the type of buildings and the complex’s history, according to Lopez, three alarms were called. “It’s had lots of fires in the past,” he said. “We know a large potential for spread in these buildings.”
About 20 residents were displaced and eight units damaged in a 2017 fire.
Though crews in the third alarm responded, they did not have to be used, he said. A total of 65 firefighters were on hand.
The fire was kept to the single unit. He said investigators were still looking into weather other units were damaged by water and other firefighters actions.
