Fresno County woman found dead in a canal identified by the coroner’s office

A woman found dead in a central Fresno canal was identified Thursday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.

Jaime Andersen, 33, of Kingsburg was discovered about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday by an irrigation worker as he was doing a routine inspection of a gated area where one canal transitions to another, according to police.

Her body was trapped under the water near a grate in the canal at Nielsen and Teilman avenues, which is just southwest of Highway 99, police said.

The body had been submerged for some time and was not easily visible to passersby. Andersen had been there long enough to have algae growing on her, Fresno firefighters said.
