Man who died after being pulled from Fresno canal identified as 60-year-old from Kerman
The man who died after being pulled Saturday night from a canal near Valentine and Church avenues in Fresno has been identified as Jose Aguilar, 60, of Kerman.
Fresno County sheriff’s deputies and the California Highway Patrol responded to a call around 11:15 p.m. of a possible vehicle in a canal. A blue Chevrolet Silverado truck was found on the canal embankment with its passenger side wheels nearly in the water.
There was no one found in the vehicle, but Cal Fire personnel found Aguilar about a half-mile downstream from the scene. He was unresponsive when pulled from the water and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
It is suspected that alcohol played a role in the crash, deputies said.
“Per the family, they said there was a party somewhere, and he pulled over here and maybe misjudged it,” Fresno County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Hooper said, at the scene.
Hooper did not believe the was another person in the vehicle when it crashed.
